Creating people and deciding how they live is the main focus of The Sims 4. Players design Sims, choose their appearance and personality traits, move them into a home, and control their everyday lives. There is no single story that everyone follows. Instead, each household develops its own events through relationships, careers, hobbies, family changes, and decisions made by the player.
Creating Sims and Building Homes
The Create-a-Sim system allows players to adjust facial features, body shape, clothing, hairstyles, voices, traits, and aspirations. After creating a household, the Sims can move into an existing house or an empty lot. Build Mode provides tools for constructing rooms, changing walls and floors, placing furniture, creating gardens, and decorating interiors. Houses can be expanded or rebuilt as the household earns more money.
Everyday Life and Activities
During Live Mode, players control how Sims spend their time. Every Sim has needs such as hunger, energy, hygiene, social interaction, fun, and bladder. Emotions also affect behavior, conversations, and available actions. Common activities include:
· preparing meals and cleaning the house;
· talking, joking, arguing, and developing relationships;
· finding jobs and completing career-related tasks;
· learning skills such as cooking, painting, fitness, and programming;
· buying furniture and improving the home;
· dating, getting married, and raising children;
· visiting community lots and meeting other Sims.
Careers, Skills, and Progression
Progress is different for every Sim. Careers provide promotions and higher salaries when job requirements are completed, while skills increase through repeated practice. Aspirations give longer-term goals connected to areas such as family, knowledge, wealth, creativity, or relationships. Completing aspiration tasks awards satisfaction points that can be exchanged for useful reward traits or items.
Sims age through several life stages, including infant, toddler, child, teenager, young adult, adult, and elder. Families can grow across multiple generations as Sims form relationships, have children, move between households, and eventually die. The Sims 4 does not have traditional numbered levels or a final mission. Players decide their own goals, whether they want to build a large house, develop a successful career, create a family, improve every skill, manage several generations, or simply watch how the lives of their Sims change over time.
