Julian & Friends is a psychological horror point-and-click game presented like an interactive cartoon. The story begins on Julia’s birthday, when Julian decides to prepare a surprise party for his wife. To organize everything, he travels around town and asks his friends for help, but each character has their own task or problem that must be completed first. What initially looks like a light adventure gradually introduces corrupted data, disturbing imagery, and connections to the 98xx universe.
Preparing Julia’s Birthday
Most of the game is structured around dialogue, animated scenes, and short interactive sequences rather than free exploration or combat. Julian visits different locations, meets characters such as Gerald, Darcy, Mr. Write, and Princess Angelica, and becomes involved in their individual activities. The journey can take him beyond the town, including sequences involving space travel, sailing, and other unusual situations.
Minigames and Codes
Julian & Friends contains 10 minigames placed between story scenes. These provide the main interactive challenges and use different rules depending on the character or location involved. The game also includes a code system that changes parts of the experience.
· complete character-specific minigames;
· visit different locations around town and beyond;
· watch fully voiced dialogue and story scenes;
· enter codes at the beginning of a playthrough;
· unlock additional codes through progression;
· discover hidden content and secrets;
· reach different outcomes and endings;
· complete 20 in-game achievements.
Routes, Secrets, and Endings
There are no traditional numbered levels or character upgrades. Progress comes from moving through the story, completing minigames, and unlocking codes that can alter what happens during later playthroughs. Some elements remain consistent regardless of the selected code, while others change considerably. Certain codes are described as containing corrupted data, connecting the cheerful surface of the game with its psychological horror elements.
Playing Julian & Friends therefore involves following the main birthday storyline first and then experimenting with unlocked codes to see alternative events. The base game can be completed without entering a code, so players do not need to discover secrets before beginning. Replaying becomes important for finding different outcomes, hidden material, and additional achievements. Because most of the experience functions like an interactive film, the focus remains on following conversations and story scenes while completing the minigames and recognizing when familiar events begin to change.
